I'm really excited to share the news that professional photographer Noel Kerns has agreed to do a night photography workshop for us at Sawtooth! The workshop will be held from Saturday, Feb. 28th thru Monday, March 2nd and is a great opportunity to learn about using existing moonlight and strobes to light buildings at night to create luminous and slightly eerie photographs!
Here is a link to the workshop for more information: http://www.sawtooth.org/classes/photo/night-photography-and-light-painting-with-photographer-noel-kerns
And here is a link to Noel's website: www.noelkernsphotography.com
Hope you can join us for this one-of-a-kind opportunity!

YES!
Boy am I excited!
We just received a very large grant to re-do our computer lab! We will be purchasing 12 new PCs, 12 new Macs, new tables and chairs, new printer, new scanner, new software: the works! We will also be creating a studio space with proper lighting equipment and props. The goal with the photo studio is to be able to rent it by the hour, in case you need a studio space in which to shoot, but don't have your own.
Lots of good things for 2013, so stay tuned all you shutterbugs!
Happy new year indeed!

Photo Challenge!
Yes, folks, we are bringing back the blog to introduce our new photo challenge! For those involved with the Sawtooth Photo League, we are introducing a photographic challenge each month that you can choose to participate in or not. It may be a phrase, an iconic photograph, or a piece of art. It is your challenge to interpret the assignment photographically, either literally or in your own style. Use it as an opportunity to stretch your imagination and your photography skills, but most of all, have fun with it!
For our December 15th meeting, we are using a familiar holiday phrase as our challenge: But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight...
You can interpret that phrase photographically in any way that you would like! I'm also going to throw a twist and add a photograph to recreate. This one's from It's a Wonderful Life:

You can choose to recreate the phrase, the photo, both, or none! It's up to you! Good luck, and I'll see you Photo Leaguers on December 15th!
Until we meet again,
Amanda

In this great time of social media, you can often get stuck in the flood of options out there: Facebook, blogsites, websites, e-mail campaigns, etc etc. I started this blog to keep folks updated on all of the goings-on in the photography department here at the Sawtooth School. Since forming the Sawtooth Photo League, I am using its Facebook page more often to get information out there. It's getting complicated to keep up with the two, as well as Sawtooth's facebook page and other social media that we are using.
So, I am bidding adieu to this blog for the time being. From now on, please check our Photo League facebook page for all things photo at Sawtooth. The address is: www.facebook.com/SawtoothPhotoLeague
See you there!
And, by the way, if you haven't joined the Photo League, now is a great time to do so! It is open to current and recent Sawtooth photography students and is only $30 a year for non-Sawtooth members and $20 a year for Sawtooth members. Call Amanda at 336-723-7395 for more details, or e-mail at photo@sawtooth.org.

We have a great new class starting this Thursday, July 19th, called Painting With Photoshop (674). Zac Trainor is back to teach this very creative class, a great choice for anyone wanting to learn more about the painting aspects of Photoshop. You can create beautiful paintings without even using a photograph, or you can paint over a photograph to create a wonderful new look. For more information, click here: http://www.sawtooth.org/classes/photo/painting-with-photoshop.html
